Aileen Lachs
Aileen Lachs has been practicing law in the State of Vermont since 1994. She joined Mickenberg, Dunn, Lachs & Smith, PLC as an Associate in 1994 and became a Member in 1999. July 2015, Ms. Lachs assumed "of counsel" status with the firm. Ms. Lachs received her BA in Philosophy from Williams College in 1983 and her JD from Northeastern University Law School in 1994.

The primary focus of Ms. Lachs' practice is alternative dispute resolution. She offers mediation services in a wide range of substantive areas throughout the State of Vermont, with a focus on residential real estate foreclosure mediations and mediations for all types of family law matters (including divorce, legal separation, paternity actions, custody disputes and civil union dissolutions). Ms. Lachs has been a strong advocate of alternative dispute resolution for many years. She served on the board of a not-for-profit mediation center in Burlington, Vermont, in the 1980's and assisted with small claims court mediations on or about that same time. She has graduated from mediation training programs at Woodbury College and Champlain College in 2010 and 2015, respectively, and also participated in and presented at a number of alternative dispute resolution Continuing Legal Education Seminars in Vermont.

Ms. Lachs has provided legal assistance to individual and organizational clients of the firm in a wide range of practice areas. She has significant experience as a family law attorney, representing men, women, and children in a variety of family law matters throughout the State, including divorces, civil union dissolutions, legal separations, pre-nuptial agreements, paternity actions, relief from abuse hearings, QDROs and adoptions. Ms. Lachs also has been a presenter at Continuing Legal Education Seminars and pro se trainings in the area of domestic relations and served as a guardian ad litem. In addition to domestic relations, Ms. Lachs' general practice has included civil litigation in areas such as personal injury (with a particular emphasis on bicycle and pedestrian collisions), employment and contract/quasi contract disputes, as well as Social Security benefits claims. Ms. Lachs also has performed a wide variety of transactional work on behalf of the law firm's organizational and individual clients, including estate planning, real estate sales, purchases and development, and contract negotiation, review and drafting.

An avid cyclist, gardener and cook, Ms. Lachs is also passionate about foreign languages. She speaks French fluently, is conversational in Spanish and is learning Mandarin Chinese. She is a member of the Alliance Francaise of the Lake Champlain Region, and has represented a number of native French speakers from different parts of the world during her years in practice.
