Whit Smith
Whit Smith has practiced law since 1977. He is a graduate of Yale University and the Yale Law School. A significant portion of his work has involved the provision of legal services to individuals with disabilities and their families. In this regard, he has represented children and adults with disabilities in protracted, complex litigation in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi, as well as in Vermont. Whit has served as class counsel for such individuals in multiple suits seeking the development of community-based service programs and the provision of appropriate services. He also has provided litigation consultation services to advocacy organizations in a number of jurisdictions throughout the country.

Whit also represents a variety non-profit corporations and professionals providing services and support to children and adults with disabilities or those with limited resources. He offers a range of corporate services to these agencies and professionals.

Prior to entering private practice in 1983, Whit worked for a number of non-profit organizations, including the Children's Defense Fund of Washington, D.C., and Vermont Legal Aid, Inc. Other areas of his practice include general civil rights, education, health care, and general civil litigation.
